Julie Nishimura 
Pianist

Since 1988, pianist JULIE NISHIMURA has been the faculty accompanist for the Department of Music at the University of Delaware, having performed more than 400 collaborative recitals and 45 opera and scene-study performances with the Opera Workshop and Opera Theatre.  She is also Instructor of the Accompanying/Chamber Music Class and Sight Reading at the Keyboard.

 

Ms. Nishimura has performed in the chamber music series of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, and she has been a guest artist at more than 45 college campuses. Ms. Nishimura has appeared at the Delaware Chamber Music Festival, California Summer Music and Strings (Philadelphia) International Music Festival.

 

Ms. Nishimura serves as Artistic Director of Wilmington-based Distant Voices Touring Theatre which she founded with her late husband, writer, director and acting teacher Danny Peak. DVTT tours two documentary theatrical pieces with piano: Distant Voices, based on Ms. Nishimura’s father’s diary of his time in a Japanese-American concentration camp during World War II, and September Echoes, chronicling the events of and following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
